I recently gave an electronic cigarette to a friend as a gift and I expected her to love it immediately but she gave me a different reaction which I don't think most people discuss. She said it "did not feel like a cigarette". She went on to explain she knew it wasn't a tobacco cigarette and that she did not really expect it to feel the same. In other words, she was biased.

After a few more slow drags (you don't want to pull too hard since you may actually draw liquid through into your mouth) she got used to it. We hung out the entire day and took puffs from the electronic cigarette through the day and not once did she ask for a tobacco cigarette (by the way, here's a girl who smokes about half a pack per day).

I was pretty amazed with how she had such a change in her reaction from her first impression to how she felt about the electric cigarette by the end of the day. It goes to show not everyone is receptive at first and it's that first step that is so difficult to get by.

First impressions are important and so is giving things a try. I don't think she would have bought an electronic cigarette had it not been for me and I hate to admit it but I felt good about giving it to her.
