admin's blog![]() E cigs/Electric Cigarettes have been under some scrutiny due to it's recent popularity. A recent FDA report suggest that E Cigs contain Nitrosamines which are a known carcinogen in animals. While initially, this seems scary, doing a bit of research reveals that this is actually quite a common substance found in lots of ordinary products people use and eat every day. Another interesting fact is that it has not been proven that the substance causes cancer in humans. Suffice it to say, despite the findings of this substance in E Cigs, the FDA has not taken any steps to ban or limit sales. This suggests that the Nitrosamine dosages are extremely small , pose no immediate danger and despite these findings, electric cigarettes are far less harmful than regular cigarettes. If I didn't know any better, I would say that the tobacco industry is behind the recent pressure to get e cigs regulated. Anyhow, back to the Nitrosamines, below are some every day products which you will be shocked to find out also contain this substance.
* Fried bacon * Cured meats (such as beef jerky) * Beer * Nonfat dry milk * Tobacco products * Gastric juices * Rubber products * Pesticide production and use * Certain cosmetics In conclusion, despite recent findings, electric cigarettes are quite safe and far much safer than regular cigarettes. If Nitrosamines are a concern to you, then you should also stop eating bacon, beer, fat free milk among other things. While you are at it, you may want to have your stomach removed because the body actually creates the substance by way of gastric juices! Reference: Richard A. Scanlan, Ph.D. Dean of Research Emeritus and Professor of Food Science ![]() E juice or the nicotine liquid used to refill cartridges has been around since the electronic cigarette but there are several reasons you might not want to refill your cartridges with it. Let's look at two major reasons why: 1. Possible overdose First and foremost, the use of the e juice cannot be measured 100% accurately by the user. Since this is the case, there is a real risk of overdosing and over stuffing the cartridge with juice. This can lead to inhaling or ingesting pure nicotine liquid. Cartridges come preloaded with the right amount of juice and are intended for one time usage. The next reason and probably one people ignore is the deterioration of quality of the cartridge. Inside each cartridge is a fiber that holds the juice. This fiber comes into contact with the atomizer which heats the liquid and the fiber. Prolonged use of a cartridge can cause this fiber to put out a bad tasting vapor and can contaminate the juice. To keep things safe, avoid refilling your cartridges if you can! ![]() The electronic cigarette's popularity is growing day by day and so are the people taking a liking to them. The electronic cigarette appeals to the tech savvy (it is a very cool gadget) as well as people who want an alternative to smoking as well as a smoking supplement. The idea of being able to take nicotine and inhale it the way the electric cigarette does is such an amazing idea and product that the limits are endless! ![]() Eko Cigs are a new provider of electronic cigarettes and they use the exact same starter kits Blu Cigs do. If Blu has another shortage, you can get back up cartridges here ![]() Wednesday 7/22/09 The FDA's goal ultimately would be to regulate the ingredients and potency in each cartridge as well as place warning labels on electric cigarette packaging. While the test was only performed on two of the leading makers of electric cigarettes, it is not clear if these chemicals are found in all electric cigarette juice. The ingredient in question is called "Nitrosamine" and it is not clear how much of it was found or what is origin is. Nitrosamines can also be found in tobacco smoke and in latex products. The company targeted was Smoking Everywhere out of Florida. The other aspect the FDA wishes to regulate is the way electric cigarettes and tobacco cigarettes are marketed particularly where minors are concerned. The FDA's findings while disturbing, still leave many questions including if regulation is appropriate and when or if it will happen in the U.S. This finding should lead to stricter regulation and quality control on the manufacturing and distribution of electronic cigarettes which in the long run will benefit everyone! ![]() Ready for Electronic cigarettes? I'd like to think people are ready and willing to accept a new technology but the more I hear about oppositions I cant help but think it's going to be a long slow push uphill. To get people thinking though, I put a list of "things" people were not ready to accept and are now commonplace: 1. The world is round idea I know electric cigarettes are not in the same league but the concept is the same: Resistance is everywhere and some ideas while unusual for the time, prove to be good over time. ![]() When thinking about cigarettes, the choices are: Vapor or Smoke. These two are vehicles for the nicotine and other substances which we inhale. Smoke has been around since the beginning of fire and so has vapor however only until recently has vapor been used the way smoke has when dealing with cigarettes. So what is the real difference?
If we took someone who has never smoked a tobacco cigarette and has no idea it has been around for so long, why would anyone choose tobacco smoke over electronic cigarette vapor? I can't think of a single legitimate reason why... Check out some of the more popular electronic cigarettes available! ![]() It can get confusing when deciding to buy an electronic cigarette or starter kit. There are so many distributors appearing and some older better known ones. I would be careful with the newer companies but at the same time give them a chance and do the research. Be careful with the web sites that put out press releases every other day! That is just a trick to increase visibility and does not make them any better than the other sites. What you want to do is google the site and do research on poor comments or products. Overall, the electronic cigarette boom is a good thing. The more they are available, the better for all! ![]() There are many out there who are not properly representing the electric cigarette. Let's discuss what an electric cigarette is not: 1. The electric cigarette is not meant to be a quit smoking aid (although it has helped countless people quit smoking tobacco). 2. The electric cigarette is not for kids! This statement should be enough and it should be clear that while there are other "flavors", adults like them as well and they are not geared nor should they be marketed to kids! 3. They are not a toy. These are real products that deliver nicotine at different levels including (none). 4. They are not a magic product that will improve your health overnight. Let me make this clear: Smoking is bad. The electric cigarette is a better way to smoke since it does not have tar or other negative chemicals regular tobacco smoking. The electric cigarette is an alternative to smoking. It allows anyone to smoke at nearly any time nearly at any place. It provides a much safer way to smoke and many believe it is the future of smoking. A recent bill was passed that granted the FDA approval to regulate nicotine levels and other marketing tactics and the electric cigarette is an easy piece of the puzzle since each cartridge can be easily regulated with different levels of nicotine. ![]() The future of the electric cigarette is here and now! So many are jumping on the bandwagon and utilizing the electric cigarette for so many reasons: 1. quit smoking (not recommended) Check out the recent poll results! The future of the electric cigarette is not clear but the present is! People love the electric cigarette and they have brought much good. |
