The proces of change

I have actually seen the nature of resisting "change" in action: At work, at home, and at play. I think we all have resisted something in one form or another and maybe even have resisted a thing or two recently. Most adults and kids resist things that take them out of their comfort zone, its only natural. I often wonder if resisting change is our inherent way to stay safe though. For example: if you lived a certain way for years and someone tries to convince you that your way is not the best and there is a better way to live, you might want to resist this at first. After all, why would you want to change? you're doing fine. You might even think they are trying to trick you...

Initially, one would think "if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it" right? The problem is here:

A. You are on the inside (so you don't see what others see).
B. Those on the outside, see what they see but not what you see.

With both of these (A and B), it's like two people trying to communicate with different languages.

The point is: if you are not ready to make a change, no one will convince you otherwise and the change will need to come once you are fully convinced (comfortably and at your pace) that you want to change and that ultimately that it wont be a mistake.

Electric Cigarettes present such a change challenge. Tobacco cigarettes has been around for a long long time: (1518 when Juan De Grijalva landed in the Yucatan and saw the natives smoking) them and of course after tobacco spreads through Europe, The U.S. Congress taxes tobacco products in 1794) and it starts generating revenue for the U.S. So we have a long history of tobacco use as you can see.

Now, fast forward to 2005 and all hell breaks loose when the Electric Cigarette appears! Talk about change and resistance... Here we go. This paradigm shift will not come overnight but it is slowly happening and people are slowly realizing the Electric Cigarette offers so much and that there is an alternative to smoking.

Most importantly, those that have transcended to the Electric Cigarette are now charged with educating and helping others enter the new era of smoking. Chances are the Electric Cigarette may fade away but this is unlikely.

The FDA is trying to regulate its sale as well as amount sold and who knows if they find a way to tax the new product. Either way, there are so many people using the Electric cigarette that it may be here for good.
